GBL recently sponsored this year’s European HR Directors Business summit held in Barcelona. It is attended by industry thought leaders and HR directors of world-leading organisations. GBL’s Anne Stenbom and Helen Battersby chaired a champagne round table on the subject of Collaborating across Boundaries which sparked a lot of open and informal debate from our enthusiastic panel of delegates: What kind of boundaries? GBL believes deeply in developing young talent. With an increasingly competitive work market, the more competencies you can offer a future employer, the greater the chance you have of finding a good job. One of our missions at GBL is to give young talent the possibility to develop their self-awareness and self-confidence before entering the workplace. With this objective in mind we asked Manpower S. Europe to partner us in an event to help a selected group of young graduates develop their soft skills in preparation for their working lives.

Together with Manpower and the University of Florence we surveyed a cross-section of Italian companies to understand what soft skills they consider absolutely essential for success in the workplace today. On the basis of our findings, we designed a highly experiential 2–day training programme to explore self-awareness, collaboration, influencing skills, teamwork, spirit of adventure and innovation.

The feedback was outstanding and a number of the young talent present were offered jobs by the sponsor companies. It will now become an annual event.

Karolinska Institutet – Stockholm, Sweden – September 2014

On behalf of the student initiative, Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business (HUWIB), the Karolinska Institute-elected Campus Ambassadors developed Global Leadership ’14 as the key event for 2014. The main purpose was to inspire those operating or aiming to operate globally on a professional level within life sciences. Experienced female speakers were invited to share their stories and recognized factors for successful leadership in a multicultural arena. Global Business Leaders was invited as the guest organization to further strengthen the educational aspect of the event. The well-renowned director of GBL, Anne Stenbom, was identified as an excellent candidate to teach the participants how the world is connected today. In an interactive session entitled “Global Outstanding Leadership” Anne showed the context of global business, the effect of culture and ended with the topic of cross-cultural communication.

The audience consisted of mainly students (bachelor – PhD level) from Karolinska Institute and alumni who, to a large extent, are currently working in the industry.
Upon evaluation amongst the 400+ audience, only positive feedback has been associated with Anne’s part of the event.
